The JV team is in the middle of their season with a record of 5-1. With wins against El Diamante, Mt. Whitney, Lemoore, Redwood, and Hanford. Their lose was at the most recent game against Delano. We interviewed 2 of the players from the team, Mikal Johnson who plays multiple positions, and Blake Beltran who plays a Free Safety (FS).
Beltran says, “The best game was probably against Mt. Whitney when at the last second at the game we scored a touchdown and took the W. I think JV is very different then Varsity because the practices are very different. We practice with full gear on every day, but Varsity only plays with full gear once a week.”
We also interviewed Mikal Johnson. His comments were, “I only played one game so far because I used to be on Varsity, but I wanted to move down to get more playing time. But I got 5 tackles in that game and made 1 touchdown. On JV they don’t have that many plays that you have to learn, but on Varsity there are so many plays you have to learn.”
Then there is Freshman football. They are in the middle of their season with the record of 2-3. With losses against El Diamante, Mt. Whitney, and Hanford. And with a win against Lemoore and Delano. We interviewed 2 of the players on the Freshman team, Alex Ledesma and Jayson Hernandez.
Hernandez said, “We started the season off kind of rough but we’ve been working hard and we are 1-0 in our league games so we just have to keep going and try our best to get an EYL title. I am super excited to be playing high school football because it pretty exciting during the games and it’s much different than middle school football because it’s more competitive. The best game of the season so far was the one against Lemoore that we won because it was really fun.”
Ledesma added, “It’s kind of a challenge right now because we aren’t really winning, but we just have to continue to work hard to try and win EYL. I love the challenge and it’s exciting to be out there. The best game of the season so far was the last against Delano. The final score was 30-34 and we pulled through and got the dub.”
