Varsity Volleyball Goes Against Redwood

Varsity Volleyball puts up a tough fight against Redwood. The game took place at the Redwood Gym on Tuesday, August 21. As the first game of the season, the Lady Mustangs end up with a loss. The scores were 25-10, 25-18, and 25-15. Parents from both sides cheered on their teams. Everyone was filled with excitement to kick-off the season.

Senior, outside hitter, Gwyn Barnett, had several hits and blocks. She was asked how she felt about the volleyball season starting and how she thinks her team will do throughout the season. She said, “I feel like we are going to have a strong season this year. Our team connects very well and that transfers into our games. We have a lot of work to do but we intend to bring good things to Tulare Western.”

After the national anthem, the Mustangs huddle up to kick off the game. Redwood starts off with a strong lead. Fifteen minutes in and Redwood has 14 points. Tulare Western trails in with 6 points. Senior hitter Abbey Avila was seen playing hard and getting kills for her team. Redwood unfortunately takes the first game.

It is a close game with Mustang fans cheering on their team. Players Jeslyn Cuellar and Gwyn Barnett got some amazing blocks and digs. Redwood takes the second game by only 6 points!

The third game started and Tulare Western was down 2-0. This was their last chance to take the first game of the season. The rally between the teams was intense. Everyone was at the edge of their seats to see who would take the win as the first game of the season.  Redwood gets ahead at the end of the game and wins 25-15.
