Ever wondered why some jokes make you laugh but others don’t? There are nine different types of humor: joke, pun, hyperbole, slapstick, wit, sarcasm, repartee, irony, and satire. We favor one type or a combination of the types and that is why we seem to have a different sense of humor. Identifying your sense of humor can open your eyes as to why you may be friends with the people who make you laugh or why we value the same sense of humor in our relationships. These are a very common type of humor. You can see these jokes on laffy taffy wrappers and popsicle sticks. Knock-knock jokes also fall into this category.
A pun: A humorous play on words using homonyms

Hyperbole: A humorous exaggeration that is not meant to be taken literally.
Slapstick: Humorous exaggerated physical activity that exceeds the boundaries of common sense.
Wit: Intellectual humor
Sarcasm:A witty remark meant as a put-down or insult.
Repartee: A humorous back and forth conversation marked by a series of witty retorts.
Irony: Humor that may be the opposite of what you might plan or expect.
Satire: Humor that pokes fun at its subject, and is often meant to provoke or prevent change.
