There are two types of people.
Which one are you?
When you think of a casual everyday shoe, most likely Vans or Converse pops into your head. Personally, my preference has changed with my age and maturity, but why?
There is a certain image associated with both brands. Vans has notoriously been known for the “skater” image or a more edgy image. Converse have been known to be more classic and ordinary.
The way you dress is an expression of who you are or who you want to be. Our preferences may change because we are changing who we want to be or how we want to be perceived. At some point in our lives, we might really like Converse because we want to be comfortable but look classic or we might really like the crazy pattern of Vans and like being different. This fluctuation will always keep both brands in the business.
Both brands are becoming a staple in consumers lives and it doesn’t matter which one you are loyal to, they both have their different styles and allow you to express yourself.
Where did Vans originate from? On March 16, 1966, at 704 East Broadway in Anaheim, California, brothers Paul Van Doren and James Van Doren opened their first store. Vans not only sells shoes, but sweatshirts, hoodies, socks, hats, wallets, and many more accessories. On the opening event only 12 customers showed up and now look at how popular it has become. In 1982 Vans introduced the classic slip-on style that is very popular today. In 2004, Vans created their custom shoes, where you are able to design them however you want. There are hundreds of different pattern and color combinations.
Converse first originated in February 1903. These specific type of shoes were originally made for athletic footwear. They were the number one shoe for basketball until the late 1940’s. These shoes have multiple styles as well, anywhere from high top to low top, multiple patterns and colors too. The style of the shoes have hardly changed since they first came out and generations later they have kept the cool classic look.
To see what brand Tulare Western favored we went out and asked a few people.
Converse receives 10 votes and Vans received 15 votes. I believe Vans won because they recently expanded their brand and have both edgy and classic styles. The classic slip-on style is great to wear with any outfit and has become popular in the last year. (you also don’t have to tie your shoes which is a huge plus!!). Both brands offer customization options and really it comes down to the look and shape of the shoe.
So, don’t be afraid to wear your favorite shoe whether it be Vans or Converse. Express yourself and embrace who you are.
