Importance of supporting the Drama department

By Mia Rodriguez & Rebecca Arriola

Recently, Mike Hamilton came into my Journalism class. He wasn’t the normal substitute teacher to give us instruction and sit quietly the rest of class.

Hamilton is not only a playwright, but also volunteers to build the set. The picture above is a set that took almost 3 months to build. Hamilton has helped produce the Mission Oak play for 3 years and has a Fresno State degree in drama. He has also been involved in Encore Theaters Game of Tiaras and many more.

Drama departments work extremely hard to put on their performances. Nobody sees rehearsals, expenses, or people who aren’t actors working behind the scenes to produce the final product.  As a member of the community, it is important to come out and support not only Encore Theater, but all three high schools in the Tulare district.

The Tulare Joint Union High School District Foundation helps to rent costumes and play pieces between sets. This money raised is split between Tulare Western, Mission Oak,  and Union. Half of what they get will go straight to these drama programs and Encore Theater. TJUHSD also supports Academics, Athletics, Agriculture, and Art.

Hamilton is involved with a fundraiser to help produce Noises Off. This play will consist of 3 acts. The play falls under the category of humor.

Noises Off will take place December 20th, 2017.

Show dates are the following: January 12th, 13th, 14th in Tulare Union’s Auditorium.

$40.00 a ticket, this expense includes food and deserts provided by the Tulare Adult School Culinary Program.

We need to realize the importance of attending plays. The drama community deserves more recognition. This is why Hamiltion takes the time to help out and do what he loves, so save the date and come support!
