Art in any form is a means of self-expression and can actually be used to decrease stress as well as influence happiness. A work of art whether it be music, song, book or painting is a shout of freedom. It is a way to escape for a couple hours and just be you.
It is why so many love this and create it as a hobby.
I never took an art class but I always wanted to draw, and every now and then I found myself drawing something. I took up the habit of writing fictional stories as my escape until I was presented with the idea to draw my characters. I drew two pictures, and I erased a lot. I was stressed at first because I was never good at it and as much as it bothered me, I couldn’t draw.
I didn’t let that stop me.
It’s not about being amazing, in a way it’s about how it makes you feel. To feel all your frustrations flow into what you are creating. Meaning that no one should place a limit or feel as if something cannot be accomplished.
Art speaks volumes when words fail and this may be a reason why people choose to avoid talking to someone. It may be a bit difficult to correctly sum up what someone may be feeling. It can become a torrent of emotions that just seem to build up and maybe talking about “it” doesn’t makes sense or leaves someone feeling more stressed out. It reflects what you cannot say.
Here’s why art has so many benefits.
Art Distracts from other worries. It is hard to dwell on troubles once in the flow of a painting. It has the power to engage you so fully, bringing you into the present moment.
It also Reduces stress. Studies show that both creating and observing art can reduce cortisol, the ‘stress hormone’. Doing something you love also releases endorphins – these are feel-good chemicals that combat stress and reduce pain.
This also aids in building a self-esteem. I feel anything but confident as I start each project. Sometimes I leave many of them unfinished. Writing for me provides a challenge and with each hour I write, I am building skills. It is an activity with a tangible result and the more I dedicate myself, slowly but surely, the more I can see improvement and feel a sense of achievement.
Forms of Art also Create a healthy state of mind. It has been used to relieve stress and in some studies be proven to delay aging mentally.
- Reduces common symptoms of dementia
- Reduces stress and depression
- Is a form of distraction which helps manage pain and have lower blood pressure.
These are some very valuable health benefits.
Besides its health benefits, colors play an important role when making a piece of art. Color is more than what it is. A color can become a transition in someone’s life and its meaning varies. It is different for every person because a color selection is subconsciously based off of their mood.
“Each color has many aspects to it but you can easily learn the language of color by understanding a few simple concepts”
Empower yourself with color.
Red is the color of energy, passion, action, ambition, and determination. It is also the color of anger
Orange is the color of social communication and optimism. From a negative color meaning, it is also a sign of pessimism and superficiality.
With the meaning of colors, in color psychology, yellow is the color of the mind and the intellect. It is optimistic and cheerful. However, it can also suggest impatience, criticism, and cowardice.
Green is the color of balance and growth. It can mean both self-reliance as a positive and possessiveness as a negative, among many other meanings.
Blue is the color of trust and peace. It can suggest loyalty and integrity as well as conservatism and frigidity.
Indigo the color of intuition. In the meaning of colors, it can mean idealism and structure as well as ritualistic and addictive.
Purple is the color of the imagination. It can be creative and individual or immature and impractical
The color meaning of turquoise is communication and clarity of mind. It can also be impractical and idealistic.
The color psychology of pink translates to unconditional love and nurturing. Pink can also be immature, silly and girlish. In the meaning of colors.
Magenta is a color of universal harmony and emotional balance. It is spiritual yet practical, encouraging common sense and a balanced outlook on life.
It’s what art makes people feel that is what is most important. A piece of music can have you jumping up and down to letting tears run down your face.
Books can have you like this too. Especially if your favorite character is no longer in the next book.
Then with a painting, you are filled with wonder and awe because the meaning is so clearly drawn, sculpted, or painted that it’s as if you could almost feel that you are in the setting of this piece.
That is the best part. Being able to imagine that you are now in that painting, that you can feel the suns rays or the chill of the water as it runs down.
Having a way to express yourself is important and relative to daily occurrences. Everyone has to blow off steam every once in a while and it depends how.
It doesn’t matter if you’re are completely skilled or not.
Listen as if you could hear the stars sing.
Play as if the entire world could hear.
Paint as if you could change the world.
Write as if your words held the key to everything.
Sing as if your soul could light the skies.
Inspiration comes with expression, a feeling is not something to be afraid of or be forgotten. Let art help you find your way.
