The Mustangs are known for having a strong spring sports program. With baseball and softball making it to at least the Semi Finals every year and track clenching the EYL title almost every year, the Mustangs always end the year with a bang. This year seems to be no different. All spring sports came out firing. The boys swim team clenched their first win against Golden West in their first meet. Softball and baseball also won their first games along with track. Can we expect more EYL titles this year to come?
The Mustang Softball team just beat El Diamante 5-2 which they haven’t done in many, many years. Talking to Senior Shania Burrell, she says, “We are a young team but we are more than capable competing against any school out there. The thing that sets us apart from the previous team is our ability to hit and score runs in key situations and I think this will help us to be successful this season.” The Mustang softball team has a tournament coming up this week.
The Mustang Baseball team also started strong this season beating the number 2 ranked team, Clovis High School. They won 9-2 which shows that the Mustangs offense played a key role in this win. Senior Elijah Parks says, “I think we have all the key players this year to be a good team and I think that if we continue to work hard we will be very successful this season.” The Mustang Baseball team is scheduled to play Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
The Mustang Track program just had their first meet this past weekend in Dinuba and won. Senior Lj Early says, “I believe we have one of the fastest and strongest track teams in the valley. I’m excited for what has to come for us this year.” Their next meet is scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday.
The Mustang Swim and Dive team has started off to a good start as well, beating the Golden West Trailblazers in their first meet of the season. This is Senior Myles Williams first season out and says that, “For it being my first meet I think that I, as long with the other boys on my team, did well. We still have a lot of room for improvement but we are headed in the right direction.” The Mustangs next swim meet is scheduled for Tuesday.
There is a lot to be expected from this year’s spring sports programs. They have the resources to bring home some titles.
