“Oh America, full of your racist misogynistic white privileged cis-males. Ruining the economy, the country and just being terrible. This is why we need feminism in the country because of the wage-gap and how unequal woman are treated,” said every Feminazi ever.
Women aren’t oppressed nearly as bad as they once were, so in turn, people like to debate whether or not feminism is still needed in America.
Without a doubt, the answer is yes.
Yes, it is true, times aren’t like they used to be, but that doesn’t not mean we have to settle for what we have now. As humans, it is our job to question everything for our future and to make sure we are never settling for anything less than great.
With that being said, there is lots of misinformation out in the world that pertains to feminism.
This is the definition of feminism.
Which means, that a feminist views men and women equal. So they should have the same job opportunities, and shouldn’t be deemed as less than a man solely based off of their genetics.
A feminazi (or what most people in 2016 think a feminist is) is a radical feminist.
Which typically means, they often view women superior to men. They take feminist views to the extreme and often portray acts of violence as a deed of feminism. This is the type of feminist people often think of in 2016.
Feminist ≠ Feminazi
The other big misunderstanding is the wage gap.
“Women make 75 cents to a man’s dollar.”
Many people think that for the same job women get paid less than a man based off a faulty study.
That study was found on www.infoplease.com basically saying women cumulatively make less then men. The fault in this is that men typically choose higher paying jobs, which can be found on this study as well.
The men on this graph typically chose much more dangerous jobs which accounted for more money. More work = more money. Women of the same profession earned the same as that of men.
This taken into account, discredits the study completely.
On the other hand, this doesn’t mean that feminism isn’t needed in America. Why wouldn’t America need equality?
Women all over the world are being oppressed and we here in America should be prime examples of equality to less fortunate countries.
If you’re still not attracted to the idea of feminism, try egalitarianism instead.
It is the equality of everyone regardless of race, gender, sexuality , etc.
At the end of it, it’s your choice.
